The Project Life posting Marathon begins with Week 6 which was definitely a labor of love. When I have a week that has something extraordinary I spend more time turning over in my mind what direction I want the design to take rather than the actual creating. Week 6 included A Day in the Life and I am so happy with how it turned out. If you are not familiar with Day in Life it is a project led by Ali Edwards and you can read more here.
I am seriously considering doing A Day in the Life again this summer since our life is drastically different now as a family of five and with me home on maternity leave. It is rare for me to be home with the kids and I would love to have this special time captured.
I had more Instagram pictures for Day in the Life than I did DSLR pictures so I wanted to create a design that really favored this smaller pictures. I decided to use Design E and make mini layouts. I wasn't sure how my collages were going to come together so instead of printing them as a collage I printed the Instagram pictures individually at 2x2 for maximum flexibility as the page protectors are 6x6. I also printed a handful of 4x6 pictures that were my favorites.
Instead of long journaling I decided to go with a bullet list in paragraph form that explained the pictures.
I could have used only one full Design E page protector but I wanted my insert to be smaller than my bookend pages so I cut the page protector lengthwise.
I varied the design of each mini layout to fit the flow of the day. If I had open slots I filled them with patterned paper and stamped a sentiment using a set from Studio Calico.
I really loved the look of the full 6x6 of Instagram pictures. I really need to remember this when I have a ton of Instagram shots from a week and don't want to have a ton of inserts.
The mix of Instagram pictures and a 4x6 is another favorite. This would be a very easy collage to print together.
Week 6 not only had A Day in the Life but also a quilting retreat/visit from my best friend and the Superbowl so an additional insert was needed.
I love having these little snapshots of my pregnant belly sprinkled in our album.
