Addicted

to sewing & quilting.

I'm still riding the high of finishing Owen's baby quilt. In fact, I've taken the plunge & upgraded my sewing machine.

I've said goodbye to my trusty Singer that has been with me for 8 years & only cost $100. I was so happy that it was able to find a home with a little girl that is a new sewer. I hope having the machine at home fuels her interest in this craft.

After much discussion with Jim, at The Sewing Room, I took home with me the new Janome 3160 QDC. I'm in love.

I had no idea that a machine could be so great. This was the middle of the road in terms of price & worth every penny so far. I can't wait to keep working with it to see all it can do.

I'm cutting & piecing together Garrett's big brother version of the quilt I made Owen & it is coming together so much easier. Thrilled that I have this little workhorse to help me on the big quilt.

I also threw in another project for the nursery. I saw this gorgeous pillow at one of my new favorite blogs, V and Co. and ran off to buy the pattern at her Etsy shop.

My next stop was of course, City Craft to pick up fabric. The pattern calls for a Jelly Roll but I decided to pick out individual fabrics & make my own jelly roll.

Next time I'm definitely using my pinking rotary cutter. The unraveling when braiding was driving me crazy.

I've finished all the braids & have started to piece them together.

I'm getting to the point in the project, as I always do, where something is going a little wonky & I start to panic just a little bit. This then leads to me altering the project from the instructions & ending up with something a little bit different.

I have a feeling my finished project won't look exactly like the one I started but that is so me.

My camera & all lenses are being cleaned in the shop right now or else I'd show you what I mean by wonky. It should be ready to pick up either today or tomorrow. I hope by then I have a finished product to photograph & share!

OH, and I meant to ask--is that pillow something a beginner can make???

This is a really neat project and I love the quilt too. Learning to sew has been on my "something I want to learn someday" list forever -- there are as many neat fabric designes as there are fun scrapbooking papers. Best of luck!

Monica, thanks for the blog comment and letting me know that you got the 3160 QDC. I am excited at the prospect of getting a new machine. I'm glad to know you like it. There aren't too many reviews out there since it is new to market. I want to go back to the store today and test drive it. My current machine is a 30 year old mechanical Singer, so this janome would be a huge upgrade! Good luck in getting all of your projects done before the baby arrives!
