Flying by the Seat of my Pants

All week it seems as though this conversation has been on repeat.

Acquaintance: How much longer do you have to go?
Me: About a month.
Acquaintance: Oh! Is the nursery ready?
Me: Um, no. But the crib is set up!
Acquaintance: Oh. Hmm. Uttered with a puzzled look.

I am finding this experience of preparing for Owen so completely different than when I prepared for Garrett's arrival. It's been five and a half years between nurseries & I'm discovering I'm a different person. But that my friends, is a completely different post.

I'm here to shout with joy, I finished Owen's quilt!! Yes, the nursery is not ready but you better believe that quilt is! It's all about priorities.

I am so happy with this, not because of the quality because I have alot to learn and practice but because I did it! This is my first attempt at quilting an entire quilt & doing the binding.

I started with the intention to replicate this quilt from the book Colorful, Casual & Comfy Quilts.

I quickly learned that similiar to my relationship with following a sketch for a layout, I end up deviating completely from the pattern for a quilt. As I went through the fabric selection process & the piecing process I couldn't help just going my own way. Granted, I had no idea what I was doing but I had fun in the process.

So, from inspiration to Owen's quilt.

The fabric is from Robert Kauffman, by designer Monaluna who I do believe I'm in love with right now. The fabrics are from the lines Metro Market and Mingle which I bought at my favorite new find City Craft.

I also managed to find my way to the Paper Source yesterday to pick up a few things to decorate Owen's nursery. Inspired by this great idea found while browsing the Modern Baby Nursery Designs on Flickr I wanted to get my hands on some paper to frame in his nursery.

I'm not sure exactly how I'm going to use them yet but really excited about the possibilities. I'm pretty sure I will be using some on these letters I found.

I envision these little suitcases sitting on either the dresser or a shelf & waiting to be filled with memorabilia.

I couldn't resist this cute little brag book. I'm pretty sure it will be a photo album scrapbook I'm just not sure about the subject just yet.

But, until I can do anymore creating I really have to tackle this!

Luckily I have been spending some time in the nursery & we have the 0-3 months clothes washed & ready to go. We are also well stocked on sleep gowns, side snap shirts & onesies. I even bought some diapers today!

Thanks to big brother all the books have been put away & are ready for Garrett to read to Owen.

My favorite thing about working on the nursery so far is doing it with Garrett. I will never forget when we opened the bin of books & he started practicing reading the books so he would be ready for Owen.

I'm also excited to incorporate two of my finds from Canton. We picked up these great frames repurposed from old windows and this quilt holder. The quilt on there right now probably won't be staying in his room, it's the first rag quilt I ever made.

I'm hoping to make great strides in the nursery this weekend. Our new chair & ottoman may come in next week & I can't wait to see how they look in the space. I also have Garrett's big brother version of Owen's quilt to work on. He is so excited for it to be done!

So cute! Love it all! Just remember if it's all not done by the time he gets here, he won't remember. He will remember all the love he felt - which will be plentiful. So excited for your family!

Looks good to me. Just because it's not decorated doesn't mean you aren't prepared. Crib, clothes, diapers - you're good to go.
